Ifedore MHA race: APC leaders write Akeredolu to reject Tope Akomolafe

The Executive Governor,
Ondo State Government,
Governor’s Office,
Alagbaka, Akure.

APPEAL: MR GOVERNOR’S INTERVENTION IN THE FORTHCOMING PRIMARY ELECTIONS

We, the party stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State hereby request for your quick intervention in the above subject matter. Our humble request is based on a number of factors, with the ultimate aim of ensuring the  success  of our great party in the forthcoming State House of Assembly election.

We are getting unconfirmed information that a certain candidate (Hon.Tope Akomolafe) has been endorsed and anointed by your office as the party’s candidate for Ifedore  Constituency in the State House of Assembly. This particular candidate is not only unpopular, but the Igbara-Oke zone which he hails from has held the position for the past twelve years. It is therefore unfair for the same zone to present another representative in the forthcoming elections.

In addition, the candidate in question was instrumental in the crisis that rocked the party in the Local Government during the last councillorship elections in the State.

2.  Democracy is built on the principles of fairness, equity, transparency and inclusion. It is therefore imperative that political parties who participate in any  democratic process should exhibit the core principles of democracy; of which imposition of candidates is inimical.

  1. Imposition of candidates have the capacity to divide a political party before general elections, handing advantage to opposition parties. Parties members are more likely to support candidates who emerge from a free and fair primary election than candidates who are imposed on the party members.

As a matter of fact, on hearing the unconfirmed rumor of Tope Akomolafe’s imposition, the People’s Democratic Party in Ifedore Local Government are already jubilating ahead of the election.  It is therefore imperative that our great party do not play into the hands of our major opposition in the election.

  1. Being a legal luminary and an activist, you have always stood on the side of justice and equity;  By your personality and profession, you have always advocated and exemplified justice and equity. It is on this note that we refuse to believe the unconfirmed information flying around that your office has anointed Tope Akomolafe as the flagbearer of our  party in  Ifedore Constituency. The Aketi we know is a firm believer in justice and equity, hence, we refuse to believe the rumored imposition by your person  office.

However, we do not take the rumor likely. Perhaps, certain persons within the party are flying the kite in your esteemed name and office. It is on these basis that we make this appeal to you to use your good offices to prevail on the party structure to allow a free and fair process of choosing aspirants under the platform of our great party in the forthcoming Ifedore Constituency House of Assembly primary elections.

Be assured of our unalloyed commitment to your government and the interests of our great party at all  in the forthcoming general elections.
