Plastic Pollution has become a pressing Environmental concern globally and Nigeria is no exception. With an estimated 2.5million metric tonnes of Plastic waste generated annually, there is an urgent need for concerted effort to mitigate its impact on the environment and public health.
In Ondo State, the State Environmental Protection Agency OSEPA has been in the front line in bringing awareness to this Menace since the Agency’s resuscitation in year 2022.
Therefore, in continuation of its campaign, OSEPA unveils its BILLBOARD tagged: ” Please Sort Your Plastic Waste from other Solid Wastes to Ease Recycling.”
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony the State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Oyeniyi Oseni noted with happiness the success recorded in the last two editions of the OSEPA Summit that proportionally drew peoples consciousness for proper management of Plastic waste for Environmental sustainability.
Oseni thanked the State Governor Hon. Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa for giving necessary support to the Agency the to thrive.
The Commissioner thereafter declared the Theme of the 2024 OSEPA Summit as::: Combating the Menace of Plastic Pollution. CONSOLIDATION TIME 3.0.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Administrative Secretary of OSEPA, Princess Korede Giwa stated that the world has become very intentional about the use of Plastic from its design to disposal. “Ondo State has keyed into this global campaign.”
Therefore, concerted efforts is required from all households, corporate bodies and the general public to consciously sort Plastic waste from other solid waste.
